The Return of Five Friday Favorites

Some of my long-time reading friends will remember that at one time I used to do a little feature I like to call Five Friday Favorites. This is where I show you five “new” things that are favorites of mine. I’ve sort of been in a blogging slump lately, as you can probably tell by the lack of posts. I’m hoping to change that and get my creative surge back. I’ve been slowly (very slowly) trying to gain control of the clutter in my house. I had a major triumph today when I took a HUGE stack of magazines to my co-worker. It was very difficult, and even now as they are sitting in a box here by her desk, I’m struggling to take them back and say “sorry, these are mine”. Silly, very silly, I know, especially when I haven’t looked at them in months, and years even. But anyway, let’s get on to the Five Friday Favorites. Hope you enjoy it!

1. Smashbox Photo Finish Primer - I bought a small sample of this wonderful product at Sephora a few weeks ago. A tiny bit goes a long way and helps your foundation go on smooth and stay on better. I love this stuff and wish I’d tried it a long time ago.

2. Snyder’s of Hanover Butter Snaps - I LOVE these things! This is my go-to snack at work. The slight buttery flavor gives these little pretzels a wonderful old-fashioned taste. The shape is a perfect bite!

3. Adidas Travao Thongs (Flip Flops) - I tried these flip-flops on at Famous Footwear last Saturday when we were there buying shoes for Brad. Talk about comfortable! The insole is “visco-elastic rebound foam, contours to your foot like a custom mold.” No more feeling the concrete right through your flip-flops. I went back and bought them last night.

4. This Is Ivy League - This is a wonderful band I read about earlier this week. I went to YouTube to watch one of their videos and instantly liked them enough to buy both of their albums on iTunes. If you love the mellow sounds of Simon and Garfunkle with a little British flair thrown in for good measure, then you will love This Is Ivy League.

5. Fridays!! I love my new job, but I still LOVE Fridays. It’s the eve of the weekend and oh so wonderful!

What favorite things have you discovered, or remembered, that you just can’t wait to tell someone about?

Friday Night In The Big Town

Anyone who lives in Oklahoma long, will soon become familiar with our long-time favorite weatherman Gary England of KWTV News 9 here in Oklahoma City. He’s been keeping Oklahomans safe from the storms since 1972. He has several signature quotes he says on a regular basis, one of which is “Friday night in the big town.” For those of you who are avid watchers of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Gary was made even more famous by a clip they did about a local promo weather video. You can see part of The Daily Show clip along with Gary’s response here.

Our Friday night is going to spent as a girls evening of shopping. Brad is out of town this weekend, visiting his brother in Houston. Sarah leaves for church camp on Sunday evening and we still have several things we need to get for her to take, such as shorts, sunscreen, bug spray and a few toiletries. We plan to eat out somewhere and then hit the stores.

Tomorrow morning we’ll probably have French Toast for breakfast (Ashley’s favorite food in the world) and then hang out. I don’t know what else will be in store, but I’m sure we’ll have a few more errands to do tomorrow as well. Perhaps we’ll take the dogs to PetSmart or Petco to get Princess a new collar and leash.

I’m on to sing with the worship team on Sunday morning, then we have a luncheon at church on Sunday after church. And then Sunday School I am helping sing songs with the kids too. Sunday afternoon will be spent finishing up Sarah’s packing for camp and getting her headed out on her first church camp adventure. Brad is due back on Sunday evening, just a little while before Sarah heads out for camp.

It’s bound to be a really full weekend, which it usually is when Brad is out of town. He tends to keep us grounded and sane and when the cat’s away, the mice do play, but not too out of hand.

What do you have planned for your “Friday night in the big town”?

P.S. - There used to be a spoof somewhere of all the quotes Gary says put together as a song, but I can’t find it. Perhaps I can find it and post it later on. If someone finds it, let me know.
