Pocketbooks and Book Bags

Remember when purses used to be called pocketbooks and bags were called book bags? Well, a few Etsy sellers have given a new twist to those terms, selling purses that are literally old books! These are SO cool! If I carried WAY less stuff, I’d absolutely carry one of these conversation starters.

Retrograndma sells purses made from books, old vinyl records and more cool stuff. You can check out her shop at THIS link.

Pretty Theory’s shop is filled with great titles paired with lovely print fabrics that make each purse a true work of art. Very cute stuff! Take a look HERE.

Rebound Designs does a lovely job of making high quality purses out of books in excellent condition. The handles are unique and add to the stylishness of the purses. Check out their shop at THIS page. Or check out her website HERE.

Want to make your own hardcover pocketbook? Check out THIS tutorial at HGTV.com.

Great Post Karla! I saw this book purse idea some time ago on the Scribbit blog and LOVED it so much I made one for myself.

The really hard part is finding cool old books without stains that you’d be willing to desecrate for craftiness! lol!!

Have you seen the sweet purses people make out of placemats? So many good ideas, so little time!

Amy - I haven’t seen the placemat purses, but I’ve had such a hard time not buying one of the book purses. They are so cute - and being a bibliophile, it’s right up my aisle!
Is yours really small? What all are you able to fit into it?

Sarah - I KNEW you’d be tempted! LOL You’re a woman after my own purse-filled heart!

Karla, all i can fit in my book purse is a thin wallet, my keys cell and a pack of gum…I only use it for special occasions, maybe for church once in a while when I know I won’t need all my “purse junk”.

It is about an inch thick…an old copy of “The Canterbury Tales” it was so easy to make, you should never buy one. http://scribbit.blogspot.com/2007/09/book-purses.html that’s the link to scribbit where I first saw the book purses….I was so fun.
