About a month ago, I talked about the move to my new office at work and shared some photos showing my old office before the move, my new office before the move and my new office after the move. Well, when I took those photos, my office was completely finished. Well, now it is and I wanted to share more photos of my office space (especially for my brother in Houston who hasn’t had the opportunity to come by and see it).
Now, I must tell you that although it may not look particularly spectacular to many people, my office has become quite a tourist attraction within my workplace. Not only is the newly renovated office space a novelty, and not only do I get a lot of foot traffic based on the location of my office at the end of a very long hallway (which I talked about in that last post), but my office set up seems to have captured a great deal of interest…
A look into my office from the hallway (with our new “fancy” temporary signage that we made using artwork printed on black foam core, which some people thought looked really nice and mistakenly thought was our new permanent signage, which is actually delayed). Continued

Welcome to my new office! Over the weekend, as you may know from my previous posts, our department and several other people moved to our new offices on the newly renovated floor. I’m movin’ on up — from the 8th floor to the 11th floor, the highest I’ve ever worked!
The new offices are definitely a major improvement over our previous offices, with nicer carpet, warmer wall colors and classier (and more updated) decór. All day yesterday, people from the other floors were touring the new office space, admiring the new look.
To appreciate the improvement, I have to take you back to my old office, with it’s gray walls and worn out, stained carpet…
This is the old office. Nice, huh? (Detect the sarcasm?) I know it looks a lot junkier than my new office, but part of that was that I didn’t have much drawer space to store stuff, so it ended up on top of my desk, and once the piles start, they grow a life of their own. I also had several boxes being stored in my office that didn’t make the move to my new office, which helps a lot with how much cleaner the new office looks. Here’s another view of my old office Continued

I’m coming up blank about anything specific to write this morning. I’m tired of reading, talking and writing about anything related to the campaign (even though I posted something last night related to it); there’s a ton of stuff I could share, including some really good stuff, but I’m pretty darn sure that most of my six or seven readers are tired of hearing about it too. At the same time, we’re kind of in a dead zone with entertainment, so I don’t have much to share there.
Meanwhile, I’ve been unintentionally obsessing over Apple’s upcoming release of the iPhone 3G, new iPhone 2.0 software update that introduces many new features and the new MobileMe service — a significant upgrade of the .Mac (dot Mac) service. The software and service upgrades alone are exciting, introducting a feature that’s most important to me that I used to have with my Blackberry — Push technology that instantly delivers emails (rather than waiting for the periodic checking of email) — and also offering instant, continual updates of calendar items and contact information to all my devices, from my computer at work to my computer to my constantly mobile iPhone. And the iPhone 3G has the faster 3G data speeds which I’ve been pining for since I got my current iPhone and should make internet usage less frustrating. Plus, the new iPhone 3G is even cooler than my already cool current iPhone, which one of my daughters will inherit once I get my hands on the new 3G. As of this post, there’s a little more than 24 hours until the official launch; Karla and I will likely test the waters about lunchtime to see if we can get into the Apple Store at Penn Square Mall, but if the line is too long, we’ll just wait.
If that wasn’t enough to occupy my mind, we’re getting ready to move offices at work. Our department plus another department and several others will be moving from the 8th floor to the 11th floor in newly renovated offices. My new office furniture is already sitting in my new office (and it’s cool and I’ll share pictures of the whole experience this weekend or Monday morning). Now I have to concentrate on packing up stuff in my current office while still trying to get several projects finished. It’ll probably be a long day tomorrow getting everything ready while working around my workload; I have to have everything done before I leave Friday evening because the movers get started first thing Saturday morning. Sunday, my entourage (Karla, Sarah and Ashley) and I will go up to my office to set everything up and put everything in its place so that I can get started back on my project list first thing Monday morning. It’ll be a long and busy weekend!
Okay, so it turns I really did have something to write about. Lucky you! ![]()

Today, we had the opportunity and the joy to surprise a colleague of ours, Ashley Burget, who is a special person and a very good friend. She is most deserving of a blessing and special gift for her birthday (which isn’t really until July 5th, but today was her last day of work this week, so we had to do it today). So, we decided to make it a special surprise for her.
Ashley is a huge fan of The Wizard of Oz and the prequel musical Wicked. So we decided to have a cake made that was Wicked-themed. We worked with a local caterer who makes custom cakes to create something unique for Ashley. Then we created a special Wicked-themed birthday card that included a digitally created representation of Ashley as the lead character, Elfaba (who becomes the infamous Wicked Witch of the West in the end of the musical).
She was so excited and we were so excited, that I just had to share pictures that I took of the cake and of Ashley’s reaction.

Why is that when you need sleep the most, you sleep the least?
I’ve battled with insomnia off-and-on for several years now. Sleep apnea was a major cause of it, but fixing that issue hasn’t completely cured my occasional episodes of restless sleep.
This latest round of fitful nights began this past weekend when I visited my brother. Anytime I sleep in a bed other than my own, it’s almost a foregone conclusion that I’ll have trouble sleeping. Add to that the fact that I unwisely chose not to bring my CPAP machine (for my sleep apnea) because I didn’t want the hassle of getting it through airport security. Consequently, I didn’t sleep well either night.
The last two nights have been very restless. I attribute that largely to a very busy work week and a special event that our department is coordinating tonight. I was in Tulsa yesterday helping get the event set up. I’ll be in Tulsa again today helping finalize the details and then helping coordinating the actual event this evening. It’s a very important event for our firm, which means my mind tends to work overtime going through all the details. And when my mind won’t shut off, I don’t get much sleep.
It will be a marathon day and it’ll be close to midnight before I finally get to climb into bed tonight. I went to bed early last night hoping to get a full night of rest before a very long and hectic day. Unfortunately, I just couldn’t sleep. I finally got tired of fighting the sleeplessness and just got out of bed at 3:30 this morning.
Trying to drive home from Tulsa tonight could be a daunting challenge. A long day after little sleep, the likelihood of an adult beverage (or two or three) during the event and a longstanding propensity to nod off while driving certainly portends a potentially disastrous scenario. Fortunately, because of my confessed sleepy driving tendencies, one of my colleagues has already volunteered to be my designated driver (whether or not I even partake of the evening’s libations) should I need one before even knowing of my sleeplessness the past two nights.
So, hopefully things will go smoothly today and I’ll be able to climb into my bed tonight safe and sound and enjoy a good night’s sleep tonight — even if it’s an abbreviated one. I just wish it was Friday and I could sleep in tomorrow morning!

I thought I would take advantage of a very small window of opportunity to write a quick post here. It’s been another incredibly insane week with work. At my “day job,” we’re cramming to pull together a major presentation for a business meeting in Dallas tomorrow while still working on other pressing projects.
With my own business (that Karla manages and that is my official “night job”), we have several major projects in the works and one that has been consuming just about all my waking hours outside of my “day job.”
On top of that, the other company that I’m managing partner for is in the middle of a major overhaul and rebranding of our web-based business, with the targeted launch of the new site on March 31st. We are very behind and there’s a lot of work that needs to be done, a large part of which falls in my lap. Karla has been helping a ton with that project, and if it wasn’t for her, we’d been unbelievably behind. Continued
