Cramming before the test

This from Monday’s NY Times…
Ms. Palin has traveled with a briefing team since Sept. 10. Two people close to the campaign, addressing her difficulties, said she had been stuffed with facts as if preparing for an oral exam and had become nervous and unnatural in the few interviews.
Advisers said she was a diligent worker and was frequently up until the small hours of the morning in her hotel room trying to cram as much information as possible before the debate.

The fact that she’s studying to be Vice President through all-night cram sessions, as if the campaign were some undergrad final, does not give me hope. This is a position that requires someone who is already comfortable and familiar with the issues, not someone who’s stuffing facts and figures in her head at the last minute and hoping they all come out in the right order. Obama may not be terribly experienced, but there’s no question he’s got a firm grasp on the major issues of the day.
Proof once again that the current occupant of the White House has certainly lowered the standard if anyone thought that Palin even came close to being qualified for her prospective job. What’s sad though is that she’s struggling to even reach that substantially lowered bar.
What puzzles me even more is that people I know are still defending her. However, if she were the Democratic VP candidate instead of the GOP candidate, they would be saying completely different things. That’s what’s truly unfortunate and why I’m not holding my breath that the American electorate will make the right call in this election.
