Meme Monday

I’ve been tagged a couple of times this week for “getting-to-know-you” type memes. While I don’t mind being tagged, I generally don’t tag others unless I know them really well. So, right off the bat, I will violate one of the rules of this particular meme, which are:

  1. Link to the person that tagged you. (No problem)
  2. Post the rules on your blog. (Certainly)
  3. Write six random things about you in your blog post. (Gotcha)
  4. Tag six people in your post. (Nope)
  5. Let each person know they are tagged by leaving a comment on their blog. (Not-gonna-do-it)
  6. Let the tagger know your entry is up. (Okie dokie)

Being the rule-breaking maverick that I am, I won’t follow all these rules. But, I can follow Rule #1, which is to link to the person who tagged me, which was Karla, who was tagged herself by BritGal Sarah (a bonus link for Sarah!). I followed Rule #2, as you can see above. And I have no problem following Rule #3, which is the heart of the meme.

Six Random Things About Me:

  1. I’m quite odd — and proud of it. My weirdness and child-like foolishness seems to be a source of continual entertainment for my daughters and occasional consternation of my very patient wife.
    .
  2. I’m a fan of many different genres of music, movies and cultural entertainment. My music collection spans from Bon Jovi to Eminem to Luciano Pavarotti and everything in between — minus the bulk of country music (although I do have the Dixie Chicks and a couple other country songs, but they are the exception rather than the rule). My favorite movies span The GodFather to Oh Brother Where Art Thou to Star Wars to Austin Powers as well as documentaries. I enjoy musicals, art shows, car shows and air shows. My tastes in entertainment probably reflect the complexity of my personhood.
    .
  3. In our household, I am the one who cries most often at movies, television shows and theater performances.
    .
  4. I’m generally anti-social, except for small gatherings of people I know well.
    .
  5. My favorite adult beverage is the Long Beach Iced Tea.
    .
  6. In my college years, during one summer, I was a funeral home assistant, which meant I helped from start to finish — from picking up the decedent from the hospital, long-term care facility, home or accident scene to assisting in embalming and preparing the body for the funeral and burial to assisting in the coordination of the funeral to supervising the final burial procedure. The hours were horrible and it wasn’t always the most fun, but it was fascinating and I wouldn’t give up the experience for the world.

Now that I’ve finished Rules #1-#3, I’ll now complete Rule #6; but, Rules #4 and #5 just aren’t gonna get done. Partially because I’m a rebel, but mostly because I’m too lazy!

Random Ramblings [2nd Ed.]

Working off insufficient sleep and excessive creative drain from a heavy workload, I’m suffering from a little bit of writer’s block. So, you’re stuck with another edition of random ramblings…

* * *

Are we there yet?
I am so ready for this presidential campaign season to come to a close… and there’s still another seven months to go. Would it be possible to have a news channel that covers news other than what’s happening with any one of or all of the presidential candidates? I would love to know what’s going on in the world, but I’m so sick of the politics of this campaign, I have to turn off every news station to avoid hearing anything about it. Fortunately, I have the Internet that allows me to more effectively filter my news. What did we ever do without the Internet?!?

Random Ramblings

Since I’m (desperately) trying to stop talking and writing about politics for awhile, I now find myself wondering what to talk about. The campaign can be all consuming, especially with the oversaturation of it on the airwaves and on the Internet. But, I am going to discipline myself to focus on other things, which led to this first installment of Random Ramblings…

  • One of my biggest pet peeves are people who only think of themselves and don’t care how their actions impact others. A subset of that group are people who litter, especially while driving. Nearly every day, I see someone roll down their window and throw out a piece of trash — sometimes it’s a cigarette, but more often it’s a small wrapper of some sort. A variant of this are pickup drivers who use their pickup bed as a trash can, only to have that trash fly out of the bed as they drive down the road.
    .
Litterers: Our community and roadways are not your free-for-all trash can. We shouldn’t have to live with your trash because you’re too lazy to throw it away in an appropriate trash receptacle. Your selfishness is galling. How would you like it if everyone in the community decided to return the favor and dump their trash on your front lawn? It’s thoughtless, it’s moronic and it’s disgusting. Continued

Hello, world… again!

Welcome to my new blog…again!

If you know me, you know this isn’t my first blog. In fact, this would be the fourth incarnation of blogs that I’ve started and published for awhile. It’s been almost a full year since I last blogged. I’ve been more productive because of the time saved that I would have spent working on my blog and I actually enjoyed the respite; but I missed it. I enjoy writing. I enjoy sharing my thoughts, even if I’m the only one reading those thoughts. It’s therapeutic for me. I work through my thoughts and feelings about issues and matters by expressing them in writing and I often find that in that writing process I am able to learn something, come to a realization or even see the folly in my thinking.

So, what’s this blog about? Well, it’s about me — my life, my thoughts and my observations about the world around me. It may be about my latest local dining experience, about that last movie I saw or about something I saw on TV. It may be about something I overheard, something I saw happen or something I read somewhere else in the blogosphere or around the Internets. It may be about politics (although certainly not to the degree of my previous blogs), it may be about religion (although certainly not like another of my previous blogs) or it may be about social justice issues (which I can’t stop talking about). It may be a carefully crafted, in-depth thoughtful essay about a given topic or it may be a short-and-sweet random commentary about the most trivial of things. In short, it’s pretty much about whatever pops into my chaotic, overthinking, random mind.

So, what’s the name of the blog about? That’s for next time. For now, “hello, world… again!”
