The McCain Solution

Stranahan says, “John McCain can turn the economy around…he’s done it before!”

How many homes do you own? ‘1-2-3-4…’

Can you really be in touch with the average American if you don’t even know how many homes you own? I can easily count how many I own — ONE!

A McCain-style attack ad against McCain

As Andrew Sullivan pointed out, if Karl Rove was a Democrat, you would surely see an ad like this.

It certainly would seem to be fair (and balanced) to apply the same standards of negative campaigning to McCain that he has employed against Obama. I’m truly sick and tired of mean-spirited attack ads, no matter which candidate or party it is — on the national and local levels. But, this parodying attack ad seemed appropriate for the man who has set the new standard for ridiculousness and mean-spiritedness in presidential candidate attack ads.

Does John McCain not have anything that would make a positive campaign commercial? Is he really so desperate that he’ll do anything to be president, even violating his own professed standards? Is the only way he can win is to tear down his opponent with smears, distortions and outright lies rather than sell the American people on himself?

Each day, he’s looking more and more like the current occupant of the White House. I just can’t stomach four more years of the same.

Pour Some Sugar On Cindy McCain

Ooops! Double ooops!

It’s always a good idea to know what you’re talking about before you talk about it. You may not know what you’re really saying… and it may not reflect well on you or your wife. (Note: This video may not be completely safe for work… or for minors… or for the easily offended.)

Are we there yet?

I saw this headline on MSNBC: “Obama defends his overseas trip.” My simple question is, “Why?” Why should he have to defend it?

Obama’s opponents have, prior to this trip, criticized Obama for not having visited Iraq or Afghanistan recently and for being weak on foreign policy. Obama answer the challenge and his opponents are not criticizing for visiting Iraq and Afghanistan and Europe.

This election season is literally making me sick to my stomach. I’m just plain tired of it.

I’m now actively avoiding news programs and any shows that might cover the candidates. I’ve stopped reading blogs and websites that are consumed by the daily grind of the campaign. I’ve restricted myself to culling my news from online news sources, but find myself having to dig through all the oversaturation of election coverage to find out what else is happening in the world outside of politics.

This is the last post about politics that you’ll read for the foreseeable future — or at least until the VP picks are in and I weigh in on that. Seriously, I am beyond my tolerance of the political coverage, and I have a pretty high tolerance (and appetite) for this type of stuff. This election cycle has been as exhausting and absurdly extreme as I’ve ever experienced. And I’m disconnecting for a while… for my sanity.

“Are we there yet?” is the question that keeps running through my mind. Election Day couldn’t come fast enough.

When?

‘McCain=Bush’ equals removal from McCain town hall meeting

McCain team actions seem to confirm the message of an “offensive” sign that led to its carrier, 61-year-old librarian Carol Kreck, to be expelled from John McCain’s town hall meeting in Denver, CO, today. What did this sign say?

“McCain = Bush”

I can see why that would be considered so offensive to warrant expulsion from an event billed as “open to the public.” You can watch the video of law enforcement dealing with the “threat” to John McCain.

Says Amanda at Think Progress:

McCain has apparently taken a page from the Bush playbook. In 2005, the White House had three activists expelled from a Denver public forum with President Bush because it was the administration’s policy “to exclude potentially disruptive guests from Bush’s appearances nationwide.”

John McCain, meet William

Okay, I previously said that I would not have any political posts over the July 4th weekend, so I’m going to pretend like this post isn’t really about politics. At least politics is not the central purpose of this post; I hope you’ll understand why I couldn’t hold it until next week. It was just too much fun.

As you may or may not have heard and/or seen, MoveOn.org — always a provocative left-wing advocacy group that’s generally a bit too over-the-top for me — put out a political ad that features a young mother with her young son asking John McCain a sobering question:

Now, I think it’s a valid question, but it tries just a little too hard to pull the heart strings. 23/6 made a video of their own that seems a little more realistic:
