Every day until Christmas, I’ll be featuring a Christmas video and/or song to help get everyone into the spirit of the holiday season. I thought I would kick off the first day with a couple of “crazy” videos. Here’s the official kickoff…

Today, we had the opportunity and the joy to surprise a colleague of ours, Ashley Burget, who is a special person and a very good friend. She is most deserving of a blessing and special gift for her birthday (which isn’t really until July 5th, but today was her last day of work this week, so we had to do it today). So, we decided to make it a special surprise for her.
Ashley is a huge fan of The Wizard of Oz and the prequel musical Wicked. So we decided to have a cake made that was Wicked-themed. We worked with a local caterer who makes custom cakes to create something unique for Ashley. Then we created a special Wicked-themed birthday card that included a digitally created representation of Ashley as the lead character, Elfaba (who becomes the infamous Wicked Witch of the West in the end of the musical).
She was so excited and we were so excited, that I just had to share pictures that I took of the cake and of Ashley’s reaction.

The Discovery Channel has a really cool promotional spot that they’ve been running for a couple of weeks. According to the press release:
‘I Love the World’ features some of Discovery Channel’s signature talent, including Dirty Jobs’ Mike Rowe, Man vs. Wild’s Bear Grylls and MythBusters’ Jamie Hyneman, as well as some regular people from around the world, singing along to the campfire classic ‘I Love the Mountains.’ Stephen Hawking even makes a cameo!
Last night as I was catching up on the new season’s Deadliest Catch episodes recorded on my DVR, I got to see it again a couple more times. It’s so cool and fun, I had to share it.

If you have a Facebook account, you may have noticed an application called “Pieces of Flair.” I’m pretty sure it’s borrowed from the movie Office Space, one of my favorite and oft-watched movies. In the movie, Jennifer Aniston’s character, Joanna, works at a restaurant that requires its wait staff to wear “flair” — buttons with “personality” and catchy slogans to supposedly add “fun” to the dining experience.
I have it on my Facebook page. It’s fun and addictive. It adds more personality to my profile, letting people know what I like, what I think and what I identify with.
Well, I decided to bring that personality to my blog as well. Already, I have added 48 pieces of flair and I have more that I want to add. Some of the “buttons” link to other websites, others do not.
