‘You may think you have overeaten, but it is patriotism’

We’re celebrating the Fourth of July holiday in Enid, America, sharing food, fun and fellowship with family — my parents and my sister’s family, including newborn Baby Rachel, and a whole gaggle of dogs! Unfortunately my brother and his family in Houston weren’t able to make our mini-family reunion this year, but we are surely thinking about them!

In honor of all the celebrations with family and friends across America, here’s a wonderful quote from Erma Bombeck.

You have to love a nation that celebrates its independence every July 4, not with a parade of guns, tanks, and soldiers who file by the White House in a show of strength and muscle, but with family picnics where kids throw Frisbees, the potato salad gets iffy, and the flies die from happiness. You may think you have overeaten, but it is patriotism.
