Does one word really make a difference?

In response to my post yesterday, ‘Political corruption crime spree,’ Jim Martin at Fried Green Onions inserts “Democrat” at the beginning of that headline so it reads “Democrat ‘Political corruption crime spree’ and then comments:
What a difference one word can make.
Really? What difference does that one word really make? Corruption is corruption. It makes no difference to me if it’s Democrat corruption or Republican corruption. God knows that we’ve seen an abundance of both. And it all is disgusting. Period.
There was nothing wrong with the headline as written, especially since it was a direct quotation from U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald who also chose not to make the distinction when making his remarks after the Illinois governor’s arrest. In his eyes and in my eyes, it makes no difference what political affiliation a particular politician has when it comes to corruption. Wrong is wrong. Period.
Why then does Mr. Martin make the distinction by inserting that word? Perhaps because his perspective comes from Democrat versus Republican rather than simply right from wrong.

Brad you claim that “Corruption is corruption. It makes no difference to me if it’s Democrat corruption or Republican corruption. God knows that we’ve seen an abundance of both. And it all is disgusting. Period.”
REALLY? I don’t claim to know what GOD knows, but I have been studying U.S. politics for some 40+ years and I challenge anybody to show that there has been anywhere NEAR the amount of Democratic corruption as Republican corruption in HIGH PLACES in the last 50 years. I have catalogued such Republican corruption on my http://JesusNoRepublican.Org/ web site and challenged those who claim “moral equivalence” between the two parties to produce a comparable catalogue of Democratic corruption.
No one has been able to produce such a catalogue because “God knows” (so to speak) that there is NO COMPARISON!

Yes, really. Corruption is corruption, no matter who’s involved. Democratic corruption is no less wrong than Republican corruption. Sin is sin. Period.
You may have documented Republican corruption and you apparently believe that the instances are far more numerous and egregious than Democratic corruption. That may be true. However, that doesn’t absolve Democrats from their own corruption. And there is certainly a well-documented history of corrupted Democrats.
I’m not claiming any “moral equivalence” other than to say that wrong is wrong. Just because one neighbor cheats on his wife with two women doesn’t mitigate the other neighbor who is only cheating on his wife with one woman. Both are cheating and both are wrong.
As far as claiming to know what God knows, since I believe that God is an omniscient God, I feel fairly safe in saying “God knows.”

So, Rev Ray…
While I happen to agree with the general sentiment that Republicans are the more corrupt party, is one to take from your comment that corruption is ok for Democrats since they don’t do it as much as the Republicans?
Both parties are ridiculous because they will defend the party right or wrong. Wrong should be called wrong not matter who did or how often their party has done it in the past.
