Winning hearts and minds

In the race for the Democratic nomination, it appears that the Obama bandwagon is gaining steam. Yesterday, he trounced his rival in the so-called Potomac Primaries. He’s now officially pulled ahead in the delegate count. And his message seems to be winning the hearts and minds of the electorate.
If nothing else, it’s inspiring creative passions. Last week, I shared will.i.am’s video “Yes We Can.” Here’s another video that I ran across this morning. It’s hard not to be inspired after watching it.

Obviously this video was made before Super Tuesday — the contest that I couldn’t vote in because I’m a registered Independent — and the banner at the end is now out-of-date; but I just found the video this morning and it still seems worth sharing.
I’ve made no formal commitment in this presidential campaign. But I’m certainly beginning to lean toward one particular candidate. Perhaps this weekend I’ll share why one candidate rises above the rest.

I am becoming more and more comfortable with going with Obama the more I read the details on his website and the more I hear him speak.
As much as there might have been policies I disagreed with, the one thing I appreciated about Reagan was that he was able to lift people’s spirits in a time when this country’s morale was down the drain. I was too young to fully understand where the country was at under the Carter administration but I can certainly feel where we are at after nearly 30 years of Bush/Clinton influence over the white house. I am ready to be inspired and see a change in the white house. I might disagree with Obama on a handful of items but I agree with him on many more. I don’t think this country needs another Republican in the white house at this moment so I cannot go with McCain. I don’t see that much difference in policy between Obama and Clinton. In the end, he is the candidate of hope, change and excitement. Clinton is increasingly coming off as the antagonist to his message of positivity and hope.
I didn’t think it possible before yesterday, but I really think Obama has a chance to win the nomination and I think he stands a significantly better chance against McCain than Clinton does in the general election.
I think he will be able to keep the Democratic momentum into the general election, I think he wins significantly with independents and I think he is likely to pull in quite a few disillusioned Obamacans.
Let Obama have the Presidency and see what he can get done with this congress. If they are not effective, the balance of power in Congress will shift back to the Republicans and then we are likely to see a time more reminiscent of the Clinton administration. But… if they are effective, maybe good things start happening rather than incessant division and bickering.
Obama/Edwards 08!!!
